NaMo:Losing sight of the bigger picture. By Rashmi Baruah

Politics in a multiparty democracy is a complex phenomena. Unlike the wesetern democracies, in India the cult of Individual charisma plays a leading role. Symbolisms of religion and castes are openly demonstrated. Take for instance the jibe of clubbing the words “NaMo” (a sacred word-an indispensible  part of Hindu chants) to signify the persona of Narendra Modi is offensive-but still in a multi ethnic country like India, it passes by,without a fuss.
This article, part of a series of articles on Political parties in India & Assam, will showcase the evolving nature of politics in contemporary India.
