FAREWELL PARTY BATCH 2010-February 9, 2013

The FAREWELL PARTY of the TDC (Major) Batch 2010 was held on February 9, 2013. This was the first farwell party presided by Mahanta'sir after taking over charge as the Head of The Department.The students had a photoshoot with our Principal, Dr Bimal Barah, under whom this batch had gone to a educational excursion to Bombay and Goa in the year 2011. A video of a photo slideshow,of the students of 3rd Year and their shared moments in the Excursion, prepared by TDC 4 Sem students was screened on the ocassion.(Video available online see http://youtu.be/UB2ZRT0M-e4)

Kolbari,Jorhat_Field Trip of 3rd Yr(Batch 2010) on February 13, 2013

The students of 3rd Year (Major) of the 2010 batch had a field visit to the Kolbari area of North Jorhat, as per their course curricula. The team of 28 students,were accompanied by Kamala Kanta Gogoi, Minakshi Hazarika,Gaurab Borthakur, Sadiqur Rahman, Mridul Chakravarty. On the way back, the students had a fine opportunity to join the traditional Mishing community festival 'Ali-aye-liang' held in a paddy field attached to the Kolbari LP School. The students as well as the teachers had a great time.

Wall Magazine-BHOGDOI-2012:-The Making.& Dept Freshers Party.

The wall magazine BHODOI, whose theme in 2012 edition was on Majuli-A Heritage for the World, bagged the 3rd Prize in the overall competition.
On th every same day, The Departmental Freshers Party was organised.

Prof Suren Talukdar, Former Head, Department of Geography,Cotton College,Guwahati delivered a Popular Talk on GEOGRAPHY THROUGH AGES & Prof K.K Nath Former Head,Dept. of Agro Metereology,Assam Agricultural University delivered his talk on MONSOON : Its Genesis & Mechanisms.

Next only to the College Library, this Departmental Library has over 600 titles, and regularly serves students through its Lending & Reference reading sections. Run by the Society for Study of Geography since 1992.

The Library seeks promotes healthy reading culture amongst students, and with that in mind has brought many interesting novels,and short stories collections of eminent authors & of wide variety of topics. Besides its National Book Trust Collection is unmatched. 
Under the CPE Fund, it has added to its stock, some very valuable collections. Besides the NET/SLET Library provides service to students planning to appear in NET/SLET exam all round the year.
The Library was admired by the NAAC Peer Team during their visit on Dec'2011, as an 'uncommon sight' in the college as a whole !

1939: Starting of Commercial geography in I. Com
1971: Starting of General Geography in HS Level
1982: Starting of General Geography in Degree Level
1986: MAJOR in Geography started
1995: PG Programme under DU (Annual System)
      (Working as Parent Dept. of PG till now).A unique event in Dibrugarh Univ history

2001: PG Programme under Semester System began.
2010: Research Centre for Ph.D. Programme started.
